Using YayTrain for the first time

When you use YayTrain for the first time, you will go through the necessary setup process just to make sure that the app can monitor your runs and has access to the sensors and data needed to make sure we can record and analyse how you are running and to assist you in your training.

Making sure the app is setup and ready to use

The main thing that the app will ask for is permission to particular capabilities within the app. This is something you should only have to do once. This includes:

  • the GPS, which is used to store your running tracks and trails
  • the motion sensors, which is used to count your steps and also approximate distance for indoor treadmill runs
  • Access to HealthKit. We use HealthKit data to estimate values such as your Maximum Heart Rate if you have a Bluetooth Heart Rate Monitor connected. HealthKit data gives us access to sleep and weight data, and we try and use this to detect potential issues with overtraining.
  • Your music playlists, so we can play music automatically (if you like). A lot of us like to listen to music while we run. Most people do.

Next Step. Making a plan

After going through the setup, you’ll be at the point where you can create a plan. Click on the Create a running plan button to begin a series of questions that will guide you to where you should be started. Once you have done that, you can start the planned runs and continue.
